The Street Department has a wide range of responsibilities for the care and maintenance of City property and infrastructure.
In addition to maintaining the streets and sidewalks throughout the City, the Street Department maintains all three City parks, removes snow and ice from City streets in the winter, maintains the landscaping behind all the sidewalks on Woodson Road and St. Charles Rock Road, maintains trees in the City right of way, and collects and chips limbs. |

There are approximately 23 lane miles of municipal roads and associated sidewalks. Street Department personnel remove and replace concrete street slabs, sidewalks, and curb and gutters, as well as patch asphalt streets and install asphalt curbs.
In addition, the Street Department uses its small box paver to maintain alleyways and municipal parking lots. Major repairs, rebuilds and overlays are usually contracted out to firms with the specialized equipment required to mill and replace larger sections of streets.
In the winter weather season the Street Department runs two crews to remove snow and salt the streets to keep them safe and passable. It is important to remember that when the forecast is for snow and ice, please keep your vehicles parked off the street and in your driveway. This will allow us to keep the streets cleaned from curb to curb. |

Street sweeping schedule for 2008.
All streets between I-170 and the east side of McKibbon will be swept on Monday May 5, Monday July 7, Monday September 8, and Monday November 3.
All streets between the west side of McKibbon and the east side of Boswell will be swept on Tuesday May 6, Tuesday July 8, Tuesday July 8, and Tuesday November 4.
All streets between the west side of Boswell to Edmundson, and all streets east of I-170 will be swept on Wednesday May 7, Wednesday July 9, Wednesday July 9, and Wednesday November 5.
Note: If it rains on the day your street is scheduled to be swept, the sweeper will come back the same day the following week.
As always, please remember that the street sweeper is not a leaf or grass vacuum. Do not place leaves or grass clippings in the street. |
