BATTERY RECYCLING - SAFELY !!

The waste industry is experiencing an increase in fires inside of trash trucks or on a transfer station floor, due to improper disposal of lithium batteries.

If you Goggle “improper disposal of batteries causing fires” you will get a plethora of articles.  Unfortunately, this applies to the St. Louis market as well.  Videos of a small flame combusting in 3 seconds to a larger fire have been recorded!  It is quick to combust and since the batteries are so small, they are impossible to detect when they are emptied along with waste into a truck.

Please share this information as widely as possible to help prevent these fires from occurring.  Please note: disposal batteries such as AA, AAA, C, D etc. CAN be thrown in your trash.  All others need to be disposed of properly – where they can be recycled by battery producers – but NOT in recycle or trash carts.

Below you will find information on how to safely dispose of various types of batteries:Battery Recycling Information (002)_Page_1
