Ah, springtime is coming. Time for spring cleaning. And what happens when we clean the basement, in the garage and under the sink? We often come across things like paint, motor oil, and cleaners. Can they go in the trash or are they considered household hazardous waste (HHW)?

Products around the home that contain chemicals which are toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive are hazardous household products. These products are safe when used and stored following label direction. However, when the products become unusable and are no longer wanted, they become household hazardous waste.

Facility

Until recently, the best option for disposing of household hazardous waste in our area was to wait for collection days organized by various government entities and non-profits. In 2013, through a partnership with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, a permanent household hazardous waste collection facility opened on the grounds of the at Lemay Wastewater Treatment Plant:

Residents of Jefferson County, St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis are encouraged to take advantage of this facility. Additional locations are anticipated to open in the coming years.

    The information you provide regarding your camera system will be for official use only. This program is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw consent to view video footage from your camera system at any time by calling the St. John Police Department. If necessary, the St. John Police Department will contact you directly, using the information you provide at the time of registration. Any footage containing or related to criminal activity collected by the St. John Police Department may be used as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding and registrants could be subject to court subpoena. Under no circumstances shal the registrants construe that they are acting as an agent and/or employee of the City of St. john or the St. John Police Department.

      Applicant Information

      The St. John Police Department offers vacation check services to its residents and the residents of the communities we contract services for. Complete and submit the form and officers will periodically conduct vacation checks on your residence as time permits. The City of St. John cannot guarantee that this will keep your home from being damaged or broken into, however, it does give added security to the homeowner and neighbors. If you prefer to request a vacation check over the phone or in person, please call (314) 427-8700 or stop in at 8944 St. Charles Rock Rd. during business hours.
